The famous West Highland Way walk is ninety-five miles (152 km) long, beginning at Milngavie, a few miles outside Glasgow, and ending at Fort William on Loch Linnhe. The walk follows the shore of Scotland's famous Loch Lomond, in the shadow of the equally famous mountain Ben Lomond, crosses the desolate Rannoch Moor, and ends at the foot of Ben Nevis. The best direction to walk the route is from south to north, from Milngavie to Fort William, finishing at Glen Nevis. The best months to go hiking or walking are April, May and June as the midges have not come out to bother the walkers!

The most popular option chosen by 80 percent of walkers is the seven day walk:

Day 1: Milngavie to Drymen 12 Miles
Day 2: Drymen to Rowardennan 14 Miles
Day 3: Rowardennan to Inverarnan 13 Miles
Day 4: Inverarnan to Tyndrum 12 Miles
Day 5: Tyndrum to Kingshouse 18 Miles
Day 6: Kingshouse to Kinlochleven 9 Miles
Day 7: Kinlochleven to Fort William 14 Miles

Day 7: Kingshouse to Kinlochleven 9 Miles

Day 3: Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy 19 Miles
