West Highland Way - Travel-Lite
Bridge of Orchy to Inveroran ( 2 1/2 miles or 4.0 km)
The old bridge behind the Bridge of Orchy hotel on the West Highland Way was built by the militia in 1751. Shortly beyond the bridge you walk uphill to a point which gives you panoramic views of the walk.
You are standing at just over one thousand feet, the view takes in the desolate Rannoch Moor, and the Black Mount, with the peaks of Ben Starav, Stob Ghabhar and Stob Coir an Albannach (known as Highlandman's peak).
Over to the east, the great flat-topped bulk of Beinn Achaladair, and further over Bein Dorain, and the Crainlarich hills which you leave behind.
Before you and below, is Loch Tulla, and the trees of Doire Darach. The descent of the hill is quick, bringing you to the old Inveroran Hotel. Inveroran competes with the Kingshouse Hotel on Rannoch moor as the oldest inn site in Scotland. It was an important resting place on the West Highland Way for the cattle drovers on their long trek south.
